About Us:

Youth Gravity (YG) is a completely youth-led, youth-initiated, non-partisan group aimed towards building a platform for young leaders to pursue projects they are passionate about in our community. Youth Gravity serves youth ages from 14 to 25 years old from different walks of life, including those who self-identify as belonging to marginalized or racialized groups. Our mission is to ensure that the youth within our communities (different areas, ethno-cultural background, etc.) are empowered and that they have equal access to leadership, positive community engagement and community development opportunities that reflect the needs of the local youth. Over the span of last 3 years, we have completed for almost 15 projects through engaging youth from all across Toronto.

Our Story:

My name is Sal Sabila. I am the Founder and current Chair of Youth Gravity. Youth Gravity was founded in 2016 on November 10th. I founded Youth Gravity when I was 16 years old. I have joined a lot of clubs in my high school and middle school, but I was always disappointed by how much we could accomplish in the school year and how limited our resources were and how adults underestimated our ideas and skills. I felt like I couldn't make my voice heard no matter how hard I tried. After thinking for almost years, one day I had a dream at night of starting my own leadership club at schools. Right after I woke up, I knew I had to do something about it. After proposing the idea to the school, I was struck by one question, what are we trying to achieve. “Building young leaders” wasn’t the answer my school authority was looking for. After failing to establish this club in different schools, when I was about to give up, I realized why not try in my own community. I reached out to my formers peers in the community. Our first meeting consisted of only one person; you guessed it, just MYSELF! It’s been almost 3 years since Youth Gravity has started its journey. We have almost 17 members from different corners of Toronto and one day it will be a national organizations. My inner superhero reminds me every moment now why we are doing what we are doing.
